Having a rental car in Taghazout means every destination on the southern Moroccan Atlantic coast is accessible on your schedule. The surf alone justifies a car chasing swell to Imsouane or beating the crowd to Anchor Point at dawn is only possible when you are not depending on taxis or shuttle timings. But the region offers far more than waves. Here are the road trips worth doing from Taghazout with a car rental for Taghazout road trips, with accurate distances and drive times for each one.

Before You Choose a Car for These Routes
All of the destinations below are reachable on paved roads in any standard vehicle. None of them require an SUV or high clearance. If you are still deciding which model to take, read the full guide to choosing the right car for a Taghazout trip it compares each vehicle in the fleet by route suitability and practical space.
Paradise Valley 36 km, Approximately 40 to 55 Minutes
Paradise Valley is the most popular day trip from Taghazout and the one surfers turn to when the swell is flat. The route runs south on the N1 to Aourir, then turns inland on the P1001 road following signs for "Vallée du Paradis." The drive is well-paved for most of the way with winding sections as you climb into the foothills. A standard car handles it without difficulty no 4WD needed.
At the destination there is a small paid parking area at the trailhead. A parking attendant manages it and charges around 10 MAD. From the car park, a short hike leads down to the natural pools. The pools are mountain-fed and cold year-round regardless of outside temperature. Go on a weekday to avoid tour group crowds, which peak on weekends.
Imsouane 70 km, Approximately 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Imsouane is Morocco's longest wave a mellow right-hander that longboarders travel from Europe specifically to ride. The drive north from Taghazout follows the N1 coastal road through Aourir and continues along the Atlantic, crossing small fishing villages and open scrubland. The road is paved and in good condition for the full journey. Read the surf trip guide from Taghazout for full advice on boards, racks and what to expect at the water.
Imsouane has a large free public car park that was upgraded in 2023. Parking here is straightforward even during busy surf periods one of the more relaxed parking situations on this entire stretch of coast.
Agadir City and Beach 20 km, Approximately 25 to 35 Minutes
Agadir is the closest city and the most practical destination for provisioning, restaurants, the souk and the beach promenade. The drive south on the N1 takes 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. From Agadir airport heading directly to Taghazout add roughly 40 to 50 minutes for the full journey through the city.
Agadir is useful mid-stay for cash, supplies, airport runs and evenings out when Taghazout's limited food options feel repetitive. Parking in central Agadir is a mix of free street parking in residential areas and small paid zones near the beach and commercial centre.
Essaouira Approximately 153 km, Approximately 2 Hours 15 Minutes
Essaouira is the Atlantic's wind city a UNESCO medina, a working fishing port, ramparts, blue and white streets, and the most consistent kite and windsurf conditions in Morocco. The drive north from Taghazout follows the N1 all the way, passing through Agadir and continuing up the coast. The road is excellent throughout.
As a day trip the timing is tight allow at least 3 hours in Essaouira to see the medina properly but it is perfectly doable. As an overnight stop it is ideal. This is also one of the most common one-way rental routes pick up in Agadir or Taghazout, drop off in Essaouira. The one-way fee from Agadir Airport to Essaouira is €65.
Marrakech Approximately 270 km, Approximately 3 Hours
Marrakech is the obvious big destination from Taghazout and the drive is easier than most people expect. Take the N1 south through Agadir, then pick up the A7 motorway heading northeast toward Marrakech. The motorway section covers most of the journey and is smooth dual carriageway. Total driving time is approximately 3 hours depending on traffic through Agadir.
As a day trip Marrakech is ambitious you need a full day minimum for the medina, souks and Djemaa el-Fna. Most travellers do Marrakech as an overnight stop: leave Taghazout early morning, arrive mid-morning, one full night in the medina, drive back the following day. The Agadir Airport to Marrakech one-way fee is €65 if you want to fly one leg rather than drive both ways.
Anti-Atlas and Taroudant Approximately 80 km, Approximately 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Taroudant is often called "the small Marrakech" a walled medina, a weekly souk, and far fewer tourists than the better-known cities. The route from Taghazout heads south through Agadir and then east on the N10, climbing into the foothills of the Anti-Atlas. The drive is scenic and the road good throughout.
Further into the Anti-Atlas, the villages around Tafraout (approximately 150 km from Taghazout, around 2 hours) offer painted rocks, almond groves and Berber landscapes that are genuinely off the tourist trail. These routes are entirely manageable in a standard car the roads are paved and in reasonable condition.
